By John BediakoThe security services have assured the nation of a peaceful election come December 2012.The Deputy Tema Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Akrofi Oyirfi gave the assurance on Monday at Tema, during a joint civil/security simulation, code-named “EXERCISE FRIENDS IN A RESCUE MISSION”. According to him, the collaboration among the security forces has of late yielded dividend, and this is evidenced in the reduction in the rate of armed and highway robberies. He lauded the effort of their men on the ground for this achievement. Mr. Akrofi said the world’s attention is focused on Ghana as we go to the polls in December, this year, and it is the promise of the security agencies to ensure that there is peace before, during and after the elections.

He particularly praised the military, whose collaboration with the police at Tema in joint patrols has brought calm to the Metropolis. “Exercise Friends in a Rescue Mission”, a simulation exercise involved search, locate and rescue of a personality. Intelligence report got to the One Garrison Commander, who is the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Eastern Naval Command of the sudden disappearance of a prominent person. The FOC brought this out at a District Security Committee (DISEC) meeting and the chairman, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, mandated the Tema Regional Police Commander to constitute a task force to deal with the situation. continued |
