Andoche Amègnissè is the first overtly declared opponent to the regime of President Yayi Boni, the so-called regime of Change ; imprisoned since November 14, 2008 at the detention centre of Cotonou, he is not healthy. Since last Friday, Andoche Amègnissè is admitted in the visceral surgery unit of Hubert K. Maga hospital.
Handcuffed, Andoche Amègnissè is transferred from prison to hospital at the beginning of the weekend. According to reports, the medical team suspects the patient to be suffering from appendicitis. Latest news holds his condition to have improved and handcuffs removed. Handcuffs are said to have been removed after an eventual intervention of prison chief who managed to cool down the zeal of his agents.
Amègnissè, the political prisoner, as called by some, has already been paid a visit in his hospital bed by honourable Basile Ahossi of the G13 political group and honourable Raphael Akotègnon of the PRD Party. The honourable visitors, very much shocked by the conditions under which the prisoner was receiving medical treatment, pledged to report his ill-treatment to the UN and OIF (International Organization of Francophonie) as well as Human Rights organizations.
Andoche Amègnissè was imprisoned on November 14 2008 for allegedly publishing defamatory articles against President Boni Yayi in an unregistered newspaper.
