Roger Gbégnonvi stood in the way of the Holding of a General Extraordinary Assembly
.
“I am here as a founding member of Amnesty International Benin but not as a Minister. Some of you want to cut me off, no one informed me on the holding of the extraordinary General Assembly” Such are the words of the Minister of Alphabetization, Roger Gbegnonvi, last Saturday in “Palais des Congrès”, the Congress Hall of Cotonou, following a deployment of the police in order to clear away the congressmen of Amnesty International. As a matter of fact, Minister Roger Gbegnonvi, somehow frustrated for not being associated to the preparation of the extraordinary General Assembly of this International NGO of which he is a founding member, did not hesitate to show his tough face to the other members who were certainly trying to play a trick on him.
Without a break, some members of Amnesty international Benin have been picked up by the Police; thank God, journalists and pressmen were spared. Far from being a common event this muddle witnessed by Amnesty international is a case of concern. This NGO, which was so far appreciated for its stance and judgments against the drifts of various governments in the past, must simply proceed to its self-examination.
