Peace at last as Oyo, Osun sheath swords over LAUTECH

* Varsity awaits new VC, truce committee’s report

Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) community is eagerly awaiting the appointment of a new vice chancellor following the resolution of the tussle between the joint owners – Oyo and Osun State governments.

The tussle that lasted several months had put the future of about 25,000 students of the university of jeopardy as the National Universities Commission, NUC, threatened mid-July to withdraw the institution’s licence if the problem was not resolved in two weeks. The appointment of the vice chancellor by a committee is part of the crisis resolution terms of a parley initiated by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade. The committee is also to submit a report on peaceful resolution of the crisis.

When the process that  led to the  establishment of the LAUTECH was started  in 1987 by the then military governor, Colonel Adetunji Olurin, as he then was,  it was done so that the old Oyo State could be proud owner of a university of its own.

And  since Osun was carved out of the state in 1991, the two states had  related  like Siamese twins until the tussle  over the ownership of the institution erupted. It started  when Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State  suggested that the joint ownership should be severed. His request met a stiff resistance from his Osun State counterpart, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who argued that his  state would not let go of a property that was to serve as a unifying force between the two states.

While Osun  stuck to its gun that it would not allow what it considered as a slap on its face, Oyo said the controversy  remained unduly prolonged because of the failure of Osun  to allow empirical facts to determine and influence its actions and decisions on the dispute….

Background
I am Enebeli Elebuwa, I hail from Upkane in Otagunu local government area of Delta State. My dad died when I was 10 years old, so I left my home town when I was only 12 to stay with someone in Lagos who never care to my education. I am a retired civil servant. I have been in the acting profession for the past 30 years. I started by going to auditions and somebody one day just said he wanted to use me for a perfomance and that was how it all started.
TV Soaps
The first soap I did was Mirror in the Sun. I played in the first three pilot episodes and eventually I was worked as an assistant producer/director in the soap. I had to leave the role I was given to enable me concentrate on production. I have been part of so many productions and I may not be able to remember all now but I am presently working on Heaven’s Gate produced by Zik Okafor.
Movies
The first one I acted in was a film (celluloid) called Dinner with the Devil. It was produced by Sanya Dosumu in 1974/75. I played the role of a police officer investigating a crime and I can remember that I featured in other major films including Bisi Daughter of the River by Jab Adu and Eddie Ugboma’s Oyenusi. When we started home movies, I featured in Journey To Hell. I cannot remember all but there is this particular movie titled Dark Goddess, which featured actress like Regina Askia and others. I have since done many others. I have been in the home movie industry since 1994

Negro and the Independence

 Independence : I can not understand the Negroes. The passage of time waiting for no people, race nor nation, gives them the opportunity to be ashamed of themselves compared to other races, peoples and nations of the earth. And yet, like animals or gods, below or above this exciting feeling, they seize the opportunity to loudly proclaim to the world the obvious mediocrity of their dismal record in the comity of adult marching nations, continents and races loving progress. Perhaps it may also be that, Negritude: To have done nothing at best or at worst to have aggravated the heritage and yet be proud to let it know!

Quebec chefs injured in Benin

Jean Louis Themis, the Quebec chef who founded the humanitarian group Cooks without Borders narrowly escaped death in a car accident this week in the West African Republic of Benin.
Another chef accompanying Jean Louis Themis was gravely injured in the crash. Frederic St. Laurent suffered head injuries when the taxi they were riding in smashed into a truck.
They'd just done a TV interview about the cooking school for poor students they'd opened in Benin in June.
