Last speech

President Obasanjo bade farewell yesterday to his fellow Heads of State and governments of African Union telling them that his address was the last he would make to them. Speaking, he said ‘The 8th summit of the African Union (AU) marks the last time that I would address the excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen in my capacity as the president of the federal republic of Nigeria.”

Sexplosion On Campus

Of Sex & students.

In Republic of Benin a forum on education is due to open on february 12. This forum will gather all the representatives of education world. Issues concerning how to organize and better the education system are on schedule. But as in other areas of the social life of a developping country like Benin, talking about education means to cope with urgent and material problems while moral ones are left aside. But as far as education is concerned, moral considerations and ethics should be at the heart of any educational plan that really wishes to help make African youngster be able to face the challenges of the world and take counscious of their responsability as regard of themselves and the society.

Among other things, such moral issues concern sex. In Benin, the relationship between sex and money among the youth, especially at university level, is a case of  concern. But unfortunately it seems that Benin does not have the monopoly of this new kind of deviance. What is called "Sexplosion" by Nigeria newspaper, The New, is making terrible loss on the campuses of Nigerian universities and polytechnics.

Benin, Togo an Nigeria form a new regional body aimed at fast-tracking the integration of the economies of the three west african neighbours.

The body, known as the Co-prosperity Alliance Zone, ( COPAZ) was formerly inaugurated folling a mini-summit of Nigerian President Olusegun, Beninois President Boni Yayi and Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe.

The United Nations health agency has confirmed a fatal human case of bird flu in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, only the second incidence of the H5N1 virus in humans in the sub-Saharan region, and is working with the Nigerian authorities to identify the source of infection.
